The guardian of the estate or general guardian
Of an adult or a minor.

What it asks for

Part I is personal property, with a total. Part II is real estate, with its own total.

Costs, extensions and late filing

Court costs are charged on Total Part I: 40 cents for each $100, and at least $15. Costs across the whole guardianship stop at $6,000. G.S. 7A-307 (opens in a new tab)

To ask for more time, file AOC-E-515, Motion to Extend Time to File. The clerk’s order, AOC-E-516, sets the new date.

If you don’t file, the clerk orders you to. After that the clerk can remove you or hold you in contempt, and you pay the costs yourself. G.S. 35A-1262 (opens in a new tab)

Common mistakes

Monthly payments on line 5

Line 5 asks for each payer’s yearly amount. The form totals it separately, to help the clerk review the bond.

Account numbers on the form

Lines 1 and 2 ask for the bank, type and balance. Leave the numbers off.

Property found after filing

Your first account

Line 1 of the first AOC-E-506 is the personal property on this inventory, and a later sale is measured against these values.
