What it asks for

Item 5 adds the real estate total to the personal estate total from item 6. For a guardianship, include real estate the ward owns jointly.

Common mistakes

Values at the wrong date

The form’s date-of-death values are for executors. A guardian uses the date of appointment.

Keepsakes on Attachment B

Leave out clothing, Bibles, family pictures and other items kept for their sentimental value.

Answering item 4

Its fee questions are only for the estate of a person who has died.

Property found after filing

The oath promises to amend at once. File the form again with Amended ticked and a written explanation attached.

More than 30 days late, you are in default. The clerk mails a notice, and you then have 30 days to file or show good cause. RSA 554:26-a (opens in a new tab)

After you file

The Circuit Court’s fee schedule (opens in a new tab) lists no fee for an inventory. Parties have 10 days to object. Probate Division Rule 105-A (opens in a new tab)

If no one objects, the court sends no notice that it was accepted.
