What it asks for

Sections 2 to 4 each end in a total. For real estate and other items, say how you valued them: by appraisal, tax assessment or market value. Nothing needs to be attached.

Common mistakes

Today’s values

The form asks for values and amounts owed on the date you were appointed. Use the statement that covers that day.

Every small item listed

“Other property” takes only items or collections worth more than $1,000. Smaller belongings stay off.

Creditor ties left blank

The last two questions ask how you, and the person, are related to any creditor. Answer both, even if the answer is none.

No copy to the person

A copy goes to the person if they are 14 or older, can be found and can understand it. Another goes to a parent or guardian they live with. MCA 72-5-424(1) (opens in a new tab)

Your first account

The first annual accounting covers the 12 months from your appointment. The form sets it within 30 days after the first anniversary.

The accounting has no opening balance line, so keep this inventory’s net estate value. Add the year’s income and subtract its expenses. The result should equal the accounting’s net asset value, unless a value changed.
