What it asks for
List everything the ward owned when you were appointed, at its fair market value on the day it came under your control.
The two months run from when you qualify, usually when your letters issue: once your bond is approved or, with no bond, once you file your written acceptance. §28-65-216 (opens in a new tab)
| Part | What goes there |
|---|---|
| Real estate | Legal description and the ward’s share, with any liens |
| Household goods and personal effects | Furniture, household and yard equipment, clothing, jewelry |
| Other tangible personal property | Vehicles, farm equipment, livestock, crops, merchandise, a business |
| Intangible personal property | Cash, bank deposits, bonds, stocks, notes and accounts owed to the ward |
| Summary | Total real property, total personal property, total estate |
Each list has three columns: a description, any liens against the item and their amounts, and the net value.
Common mistakes
Gross value where the form asks for net
A house worth $140,000.00 with a $32,000.00 mortgage goes in at $108,000.00. Name the lien and its amount in the middle column.
A bank account with no bank named
For money on deposit the form asks for each bank’s name and address. Bonds and stocks need their issuer, class and serial or certificate numbers.
Skipping what you owe the ward
You swear that you are not indebted or obligated to the ward except as stated. If you owe the ward money, say so on the form.
Property found after filing
Correct errors and omissions with a supplemental inventory, or in your next account. §28-49-110(b) (opens in a new tab)
Your first account
